I have brown patches in my yard and now there are beetles in my bushes. What is happening? You may have grubs!
Grubs are the larvae of various beetles, such as Chafers, Japanese and June beetles and others. In summer, they lay their eggs in the soil and within weeks the grub emerges causing extensive damage. They feed on grass roots and garden crops. You might notice food-seeking predators (such as moles, skunks, and blackbirds) who often do further damage where grubs are present. Summer is the best time to use a grub preventative to control these potentially devastating insects, catching them before they hibernate deep in the soil, only to repeat the pattern next year.
